I had never heard of a "jo-jo" until I visited Portland, but apparently, jo-jos are like the world's largest French fries — giant potatoes, cut into quarters, then battered and fried. I normally shy away from such foods, but on a recent trip to Portland's Reel M Inn, I couldn't resist. And the indulgence was worth every bite: These things were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and warm and soft in the center. I took a photo that affords some perspective in terms of size.

When you said jo-jos, I thought you went to the Safeway deli. that's where I always got them from. Seriously, next time you're in Portland, go to the Mad Greek deli and get some Greek fries. You think jo-jos rock, you ain't tried nothing yet.
